Animal Friends
This group supports the Animal Friends of the Valley animal
shelter (formally LEAF) in Lake Elsinore. Over the years TVWC has donated over
$20,000 towards the new building fund. We collect and donate items the shelter
needs such as blankets and pet food. The committee’s volunteer hours have
included assembling the shelter’s newsletter, holding fundraising rummage and
bake sales, and participating in the Shelter’s many activities.

We support the Circle of Safe-T Community Advisory Committee, a group of
community leaders with a lifetime of experience in crime prevention and victim

out literature and educating the public on prevention, treatment programs and
available support for victims of these crimes in cooperation with public service

Film Festival
Members work in collaboration with the Temecula Valley
International Film Festival to perpetuate the creative film arts in the
community. We assist behind the scenes answering phones, documenting and
categorizing film submissions and helping with preview screening events. During
the event we do registration, ticket sales and film presentations. As goodwill
ambassadors we promote the event to school districts, senior centers and other
organizations thereby increasing the Festival’s attendance.

Michelle’s Place, the only breast cancer resource center in all of Riverside

battling breast cancer, as well as educating those not yet impacted with the
disease. We support this organization by helping with and participating in the
many activities, fundraisers and events they hold each year.

Dedicated to assisting wherever needed, we help with the passport program,
shelve books and volunteer in the Friends of the Murrieta Library Bookstores.
Through “Book Express” we deliver books to shut-ins and visit elementary schools
with the “Books on the Go” program. Additionally,

Penny Pines
At each monthly general meeting we pass around a “Pennies for
Pines” collection box in which members may deposit their loose change. At the
end of the year this money goes to replenish trees in the Cleveland National
Forest. Over the years our collected change has funded an average of sixty acres
of tree plantings annually by our club.

SAFE
Safe Alternatives for Everyone (SAFE) is a local, non-profit
organization helping victims of domestic violence. We are proud that this
organization, which has contributed so much to our community, actually began
years ago as a committee within our club.
The committee still exists today, supporting SAFE wherever we can. The past few
years we have taken on the project of doing all of the make-up on the ghosts,
goblins and creatures for their annual Haunted House fundraiser in Old Town.

Scholarships
Our club annually awards approximately $15,000 in
scholarships to the Valley’s graduating seniors. This committee works with our
local public high schools to obtain worthy applicants.
Reading through hundreds of submissions we determine our final scholarship
recipients. We also select an entry for the Federation of Women’s Clubs district
level scholarship.
In addition, we annually award a scholarship to a woman wishing to return to
college to complete her education at Mt San Jacinto College.

YMCA
The establishment of a Southwest Family YMCA facility has been the main
focus of this committee’s members for some time. We are excited as the building
grows from its planning stage into reality. We hold our own fundraisers for this
cause and assist the YMCA in holding theirs. You can usually find us creating
centerpieces, decorations and opportunity baskets for the next big event.

Epsilon Sigma Omicron
ESO is an honorary reading sorority formed by the General Federation of
Women's Clubs to encourage continuing education through a disciplined
reading program. It helps the reader gain self-enrichment and enjoyment from
the reading of excellent books, based upon the "American Heritage" theme.
All books read are by American authors and about
America.
It eventually becomes a habit to look for books that relate to America and
our rich history. The TVWC group meets once or twice a year, usually for a
luncheon, and compares books and reports. Everyone in the club is welcome to
join. Hours reported are just the time is takes to write the reports, and
the time attending a meeting. |
